2021 Niue DC Justice League Swamp Thing 50th Ann. 1 oz Silver Coin

This new issue from the New Zealand Mint is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the first appearance of DC Comics Swamp Thing™ character in the Justice League™. The coin was minted from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality. The motive features an image of the superhero in color as well as the Swamp Thing™ logo. The reverse shows the Ian Rank Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, as well as the denomination and year of issue. Originally known as the biologist Alec Holland, Swamp Thing™ made his first appearance in 1971 in the DC Comics House of Secrets #92. Due to an accident in a secret goverment lab, the biologist fell into a swamp along with large quantities of his just-discovered elixir. As a result, the spirit of Alec Holland merged with the swamp plant and became a human-like being with abilities of a plant. He is a positive character who fights as a superhero against his nemesis and scientist Anton Arcane. A difference from DC’s conventional superheroes is the fact that Swamp Thing™ does not have a civilian cover identity. The limited Swamp Thing™ silver proof coin is delivered in an acrylic coin case and the original Swamp Thing™ packaging including a certificate of authenticity from the New Zealand Mint.
